Kiko Arcas
OverviewKiko Arcas, Spain
My name is Kiko Arcas García from Vigo (Galicia, NW Spain), I´m an Ambassador of Fujifilm, Buteo Photo Gear & Stealth Gear.
I became interested in Nature, especially birds, when I was 10 years old. 37 years later I still have the same passion. I´ve always liked to photograph birds showing something of the environment, behavior, etc. escaping a bit from close-ups.
My favourite birds have always been small forest birds or species such as the Dipper or Red-backed Shrike. Lately I have been focusing on mammals as I find them spectacular.
Before I start a project, I spend many hours tracking with binoculars, looking for tracks or clues that tell me if the species I want to photograph is where I want it to be. For my photographs I always use photohides and camouflage suits, the latter is highly recommended for photography for example Roe deer or foxes. The model I use the most is the Buteo Mark II because it’s quick to set up, very light and easy to carry. It’s a very versatile photohide and undoubtedly one of the most important parts for wildlife photographers.
My day life I imagine it will be like that of any good photographer: Planning and knowing very well what species we want to photograph but most importantly, enjoying what we are doing! Every day is something to improve and to learn from others colleagues, every day is a new learning experience.
There are two species that I dream of photographing one day, and strangely enough they are not birds. The first is an Arctic fox and the second is to photograph the intense gaze of a leopard. I think they are two fantastic animals.
Usually, I post my pictures on Instagram and Facebook but also on my website.
My biggest advice is to always enjoy what you'r doing, and not to get obsessed with social media, competitions, etc. Be yourself and learn a lot by observing the work of other photographers.
